http://tsaitailun.blogspot.com/2009/05/20092.html
http://www.boconcept.us/BoConcept_Soho-79872.aspx

Others, like Bo Concept, were not.

Confident after my early success, I walked a few blocks south to the SoHo franchise of BoConcept, a Danish chain that sells its own furniture line. The pieces have a clean, slightly generic look that, depending on how they’re deployed, can either lend a chic simplicity to a space or transform it into a boutique hotel lobby. On a previous visit I had admired a walnut platform bed priced at $1,379, and when a spiky-haired salesman approached, introducing himself as Jackie, I shifted into haggling mode.

After several minutes of general conversation about the bed — during which I carefully avoided discussing price — I asked if it was on sale.

“No,” Jackie said, grinning widely.

Were there any coming sales?

The store runs a yearly promotion called “Crazy Bed Day,” he told me, but I’d missed it.

I inquired about a floor model discount, but the bed was in stock, so the floor model wasn’t for sale. I next lobbed a vague threat, implying I might take my business elsewhere: many stores sell platform beds — what was special about this one?

Jackie demonstrated how the bed allowed for adjustable mattress height and sang BoConcept’s praises as he did so, telling me, “My whole apartment — BoConcept.”

I expressed serious interest in buying the bed if the store would do better on price.

Same friendly smile, same firm “No.”

I began to rope-a-dope him, running through various cost-saving possibilities. Does the store give a discount to the trade, and if so would he be willing to extend it to a civilian like me? How about just 10 percent off? Would he take $1,200? The bed is sold in three pieces: headboard, frame and legs. Could he discount one of the pieces? Wasn’t there something he could do?

“No” came the reply time and again.

Exhausted, I gave up.

Jackie later explained that because BoConcept is a chain, prices are set by the company and never reduced. The company, he added, believes its prices are already low for the industry. He conceded that business was slow, but said the store’s expenses hadn’t changed, and it still needed to make a profit on each sale. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

http://www.davidfootestudio.com/limitededition10/event.html

http://www.davidfootestudio.com/limitededition10/boconcept.html
